On the karmic bond between them
Before he had a name, he was carried inside her — sharing her breath, her blood, her heartbeat, learning the rhythm of the world through the rhythm of her body. This is the first karma between them: not one of debt, but of deep connection — two souls who chose, in whatever way souls choose, to meet in this life as mother and son.
She gives him his first sense of safety. He gives her a love that asks nothing and demands everything. In this exchange, both are shaped. What she carries — her strength, her fear, her tenderness, her unhealed places — she cannot help but pass some of it to him, the way a river carries silt from the mountains it has passed through. What he carries forward — into his own choices, his own home, his own way of loving — will hold traces of her, long after he has grown beyond her arms.
This is the pattern between mother and son: she teaches him, often without words, what love looks like, what safety feels like, what a woman’s strength can hold. He learns it in his bones before he understands it in his mind, and it becomes part of how he moves through the world, how he treats those he loves, how he one day may raise children of his own.
We ask for the wisdom to see this bond clearly — to keep what is good in it: the devotion, the loyalty, the quiet strength, and to release what is not — the fear passed as caution, the worry passed as control, the wound passed as expectation.
Let her know when to hold him and when to let him go. Let him know when to lean on her and when to stand on his own. May she see him not only as her child, but as his own soul, walking his own path, carrying her love forward into a life she cannot fully see. May he honor her not out of debt, but out of the same love with which she first held him — free, willing, and whole.
Let this bond be a blessing that lightens them both, not a pattern that binds them. Let what passes between them be love, freely given and freely received, across every year that follows.
